Sebastien Frey

This is such an old news, no thanks to the overwhelming coverage of the English Premier League by the local media. And I found out this piece of news through an older issue of FourFourTwo, a British football magazine via the library.

Sebastien Frey, a 28 year old French goalkeeper of Fiorentina, one of the big clubs in Italian Serie A now vying for UEFA Cup honours in the later stages of the season, is a fellow believer of Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism. Despite not being the first few choices of the French National Football Team, he is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Italian football, if not, the best foreign goalkeeper in the Italian league.

And how he took up this faith? Through one Italian football legend and fellow believer of Buddhism, Roberto Baggio. Baggio helped convert(shakubuku) Sebastien Frey to Buddhism during the keeper's rehabilitation from a knee injury.

To find out more about this fellow SGI member and one of the best goalie in Italian football,

Meanwhile, all the best for him in leading his club for UEFA Cup glory in Europe, securing a UEFA Champions League place in the league and his selection to the national squad for the upcoming EURO 2008 championship... =)

Words of Wisdom from SGI President

Having a mentor in life means having a model or standard by which
we can live our lives. And, of all such bonds, none is more wonderful than relationship where mentor and disciple work together for the lofty ideal of world peace and the happiness for all humanity.

Some Sensei Guidances On Love...

"True love should be transformative, a process that amplifies our capacity to cherish not just one person but all people. It can make us stronger, lift us higher and deepen us as individuals. Only to the extent that one polishes oneself now can one hope to develop wonderful bonds of the heart in the future. "

"Daily life can seem all too drab and unexciting. Living itself can sometimes seem a strain, and few of us realistically expect what joy we feel to last forever. But when we fall in love, life seems filled with drama and excitement. We feel like the leading character in a novel. But, if you get lost in love just because you are bored, and consequently veer from the path you should be following, then love is nothing more than escapism. What you are doing is retreating into a dream world, believing that what is only an illusion is actually real."
