Sebastien Frey

This is such an old news, no thanks to the overwhelming coverage of the English Premier League by the local media. And I found out this piece of news through an older issue of FourFourTwo, a British football magazine via the library.

Sebastien Frey, a 28 year old French goalkeeper of Fiorentina, one of the big clubs in Italian Serie A now vying for UEFA Cup honours in the later stages of the season, is a fellow believer of Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism. Despite not being the first few choices of the French National Football Team, he is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Italian football, if not, the best foreign goalkeeper in the Italian league.

And how he took up this faith? Through one Italian football legend and fellow believer of Buddhism, Roberto Baggio. Baggio helped convert(shakubuku) Sebastien Frey to Buddhism during the keeper's rehabilitation from a knee injury.

To find out more about this fellow SGI member and one of the best goalie in Italian football,

Meanwhile, all the best for him in leading his club for UEFA Cup glory in Europe, securing a UEFA Champions League place in the league and his selection to the national squad for the upcoming EURO 2008 championship... =)
